Q. Is Tipping Required?

No, a 15% Service Charge will automatically be charged to guest accounts. Please observe a NO EXTRA TIPPING policy, as we wish that you would rather indulge in another Spa appointment, participate in one more sport activity, have another delicious bottle of wine or spoil oneself with extending the stay another night…..any of these will help all of the Resorts working team, far more than tipping. This Policy insures that we can provide better quality service throughout and also allows us to pay the 15% Service Charge collected as boosted salaries and bonuses to all our Team.

Q. How is the 15% Service Charge Implemented?

The Service Charge is 100% transferred to the staff team, but not shared equally, with a higher distribution to those that are the most difficult to find and retain. It is transferred to the staff in higher wages than minimum wage. Many Staff are in a position to make considerably more than minimum wage such as evening dining room staff, kitchen staff, Spa staff and staff that do special services. Other staff who live on site (it pays for their accommodation and food). Some employees make just a little more than minimum wage and this money goes to that difference as well. Managers would be paid higher from these Charges. Service Charges go out to cover Coffee and Beverages to consume while working, having a reduced priced meal while working here or paying a reduced rate while dining here. ALSO Uniforms, Shoes, Boots, Winter coats, Turkeys & Christmas Gift Cards. Service Charges are paid out bi-weekly as bonuses to cleaners if they perform and quarterly to all non-live in staff if the Resort does well. Everyone has the opportunity to apply for better paying jobs.

Q. Where are the moose?

Algonquin Park has thousands of moose. The best chance of spotting a moose is along the highway 60 corridor running through Algonquin. The moose are not generally afraid of tourists, and will continue to eat along side the road. (DO NOT APPROACH A MOOSE!) Moose are most frequent through May and June when road salt from the winters roads wash into the neighbouring ditches. Moose consider salt to be a treat, especially when mixed with their greens. In the foliage months, taking a very early hike on the Mizzy Lake Trail also can be rewarding. Moose become rare to see in the winter months.

Q. What is temperature of the Thermal salt-water pool ?

The Thermal pool is kept around at 87 °F or 31 °C purely for enjoyment; we want everyone to use it. The Thermal Pool uses the Sun to heat it and the pool uses an electro-plate to break basic table salt into the compounds used to kill bacteria, similar to chlorine, without any of the side effects. There is no smell, it tastes a little salty and is more like a saline solution, so you can open your eyes under water and it will not irritate them. There is no chemical reaction to the skin, hair or swimsuits. You will actually feel smoother after your shower.  The Thermal Hot tub is the same system and is kept at 40'C or 104'F.
