Clothing Rental
We rent outdoor winter clothing to keep you warm, they include cold weather boots, 100% windproof & waterproof pants and jackets with a polar fleece interior, mitts and polar fleece hats.

We recommend that you bring layers for under our shell, for those really brisk days.

Of course, the snow is no reason to stay indoors at the Couples Resort. Spending an hour or two on prestine ski trails is a great winter experience. Algonquin Park has International quality ski trails that are perfectly track set and for the athlete these trails also have a skating lane. Five minutes from the Resort is the East Gate of Algonquin Park and the Leaf Lake Ski Trails start 1 minute inside of that. Algonquin Park has 60 km of spectacular trails, 30 km (6 minutes from the Resort) are groomed as track-set and skating lanes and 30 km (30 minutes from the Resort) are backcountry. Check the Algonquin website and look under ski reports. A Park pass is required to enter the Ski Trail Sytem.

Snow-Shoeing
In Algonquin, thigh-deep snow can occasionally be found in late March. Being blessed with this much snow means that snowshoeing is one of the best ways to see the wilderness in winter. Snowshoeing enthusiasts will find the entire Park open to them (except the ski trails). Two great spots for snowshoeing are through the Algonquin outdoor Logging Museum Trail, The Spruce Bog Boardwalk Trial or endless Campgrounds along hwy 60 Corridor in the Park.

Pro-snowshoes are available at the Resort for your daily rental experience from 11 to 4:30
Dog Sledding
Mush your own team of four huskies on stunning trails. Your tour guide will give you on-site lessons and then will lead you on a great dog-sledding adventure. The trip departs nearby from the resort's Adventure Stables and into Algonquin. Each trip is approximately 1.5 hours.

Horse Back Riding
Rugged surroundings can compel you to mount up on your own horse even in the winter. There is nothing quite like exploring the wilderness on horseback with winter white covering all the trees. The horse ranch is a short drive from the resort with bookings made at our front office.
- 20 trail horses, operating year round.
- All in a beautiful stable adjacent to the dog sledding kennels.
- 10 acres of fenced-in land for grazing.
- One hour winter rides, dress very warm.
Ice-Fishing
- 2 ice-fishing huts.
- 4 fishing rods with all the gear.
- One Guide, nephew of the famous ‘The Last Guide’.
For ice-fishing on the border of Algonquin Park , call Frank Van Ball (613) 637-5420. Frank is the nephew of the famous Algonquin guide Frankie Kuiack, from which a book was written, The Last Guide. They spent many a day fishing together in the waters of Algonquin Park .
Snowmobiling
Bring your own, the main Trail system is 1 km away and easy to sled to.Ice Skating
Couples Resort maintains a wonderful skating rink on the lake. At night, the rink is lit up so that the two of you may enjoy skating under the stars of the stunning Algonquin night sky. During the day we provide nets and sticks for some friendly competition.
- 1 ice rink 40 feet X 80 feet.
- 20 pair of ice skate.
- Please ask for skates before 4pm to have them for night skating.
We have a large assortment of skate rentals, up to size 14, for your use.
